Easter With My Best Friend
I bring this Easter basket
To give to you today
Because no matter how time's passed
You're never far away.
To some, it may look empty,
But those who love you will know
That packed inside these pretty walls
Is all my love to hold.
I would give any number of things
To hold your hand again.
But now I must simply be content
Whispering prayers into the wind.
So this morning, my Easter basket
Has caught and held them tight for you,
These old familiar prayers
As they are whispered again, anew.
Like, "Lord, please help Marissa,
Be safe in Heaven with you."
Because I hope that when my time comes
I'll be safe with you, too.
And, "May Jesus love Rissy's family;
Watch over them every day.
Always keep them close to your heart;
They complete mine in so many ways."
Or, "Please watch over my sisters and me,
As we play, and change, and grow.
Kacy could use the extra help,
From the Angel Friend she knows."
My prayers are just little things
But I say them for you all the time.
Every day, every night, in everything I do,
You occupy my mind.
Missing you has no end,
As I've come to understand.
I often want to simply reach out
And take you by the hand.
I long to run across the baseball field;
Have you batting along with me.
Or play with you at the Waterfront.
But I know these wishes just can't be.
Today, all Christians celebrate
The rising of God's Son.
So here at sunrise I celebrate
With a most special one.
You, my best friend, forever.
Life was not enough.
Now that you've risen and are with Jesus,
Please always remember my love.
And when today's celebrations are finished
And this Easter basket is gone,
Please listen again so you will hear,
My prayers; whispered in the wind.
